Welcome to The Oxford OesophagoGastric Centre
Welcome to the website of the Oxford OesophagoGastric Centre. Since 1997 we have provided a specialist service for upper gastrointestinal surgery to Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Wiltshire. Our NHS practice is based at the new Cancer, Surgery and Diagnostics Centre at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford and our Private Practice is based at the Wytham Wing, Churchill Hospital, part of Oxford Radcliffe Private Healthcare, and at the Nuffield Manor Hospital, Oxford.
The Oesophagogastric Cancer unit is one of the biggest of its kind in the United Kingdom, carrying out more than one hundred operations each year for oesophageal or gastric cancer. The unit has an international reputation, with its results regularly published in peer reviewed journals and presented at national and international meetings.
The unit carries out more than five hundred minimally invasive (keyhole) operations each year, particularly specialising in gallbladder surgery and surgery for acid reflux and hiatus hernias. More recently we have set up a bariatric surgical practice (surgery to help patients lose weight) offering three types of obesity surgery laparoscopic gastric band, laparoscopic gastric bypass and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. Our expanding programme of minimally invasive surgery has been helped greatly by our recent purchase of a fully Computerised Integrated Operating Theatre where all our keyhole surgery is carried out. This has been funded from a busy fund raising campaign through the generosity of friends and patients.
